Ben Affleck Still Plans to Star in Batman Movie

Justice League producer Charles Roven added to long-brewing speculation that Ben Affleck won’t star in Matt Reeves’ The Batman when he commented earlier this week that “I can’t really say anything for certain.” However, in a separate interview with CBR, he appears at least a little more confident that the actor will reprise his role as the Dark Knight.

“I’m not producing that movie,” Roven told CBR. “Matt Reeves is working on that, but I do work with Ben, so I know that he’s certainly planning on starring in that film, but I don’t know what the script is.”

However, he added, “I’m not producing that movie, so I’m probably the wrong guy to ask.”

Far from definitive, Roven’s remarks aren’t likely to throw cold water on speculation about Affleck’s departure from the DC Extended Universe that has swirled for months. Affleck was initially attached to direct and co-write the film, but announced in January that he’d no longer be behind the camera for The Batman. Reeves was swiftly brought on board to succeed him, and started over with a new script.

Affleck next appears as Batman in Justice League, which also stars Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon.
