Ragnarok Draft Included Thor/Valkyrie Romance

Jane Foster served as Thor’s love interest in Thor and its sequel Thor: The Dark World, but in Thor: Ragnarok, the two are broken up and the newest film in the franchise didn’t feature the God of Thunder finding love again. However, early drafts did feature a romance… between Thor and Valkyrie.

“It became more about the mutual respect,” screenwriter Eric Pearson told Collider about the removal of the characters’ romance, “[She’s] also dealing with her PTSD. She’s someone who’s drowning her sorrows in the bottle, and I just thought that was such a cool thing that you don’t often see in these movies: somebody dealing with extreme guilt and shame in a colorful, Taika Waititi[-directed] hilarious background.”

In October, actor Tessa Thompson confirmed Valkyrie’s bisexuality, though later noted that it was not explicitly addressed in the film. Additionally, a cut scene featuring a woman leaving Valkyrie’s bedroom meant to imply the character’s sexual orientation did not make it into the final version.
