Four months after Jodie Whittaker was announced as the new star of Doctor Who, BBC and BBC America have released the first look at her Thirteenth Doctor in costume.

Like Whittaker, the first female Doctor in the franchise’s 54-year history, the outfit represents a departure. At the same time, it seems to reference some of the Time Lord’s previous incarnations, from the flowing overcoat to the suspenders to the rainbow stripe. It’s a long way from the dark hooded coat she wore in the video announcing her casting.

Eagle-eyed fans will also notice changes to the exterior of the TARDIS, pictured in the background.
Whittaker will make her debut as the Doctor in next month’s Doctor Who Christmas special, during which Peter Capaldi bids farewell to the role.
She’ll be joined the upcoming 11th season by Bradley Walsh (Law & Order: UK) as Graham, Tosin Cole (Hollyoaks) as Ryan, and Mandip Gill (Hollyoaks) as Yasmin. At that time Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch) will succeed Steven Moffat as head writer and executive producer.
The new season of Doctor Who is expected to debut in fall 2018.
