John Boyega Teases Finn-Poe Romance

After the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, many fans expressed their desire to see Finn (John Boyega) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) enter a romantic relationship of some sort. While it’s still unknown if they actually will, Boyega has been teasing the possibility, though it’s going to have to be Poe who makes the first move.

“I think that Oscar is always looking at me with love in his eyes,” Boyega said in an interview with Metro. “I guess that the fans saw it. And then they realized that either he needs to chill or come out.”

Boyega also responded to a question about whether or not the blockbuster franchise has a responsibility to be more progressive and inclusive. “There definitely is that responsibility, but more the responsibility to hire those from those experiences to share their creative light, that’s the pivotal thing,” he said. “Because if you just hire the same sort of people you’re just getting the same sort of film. It’s not wrong, but then there’s a lack of variety.”

“I think Pacific Rim handles that in a very unique way,” the actor added.

Star Wars has made strides in representation with its casting choices in recent years. However, explicitly LGBT characters are still lacking in the films. In 2016, J.J. Abrams, who directed The Force Awakens and will return for The Last Jedi, said it was time for the franchise to introduce gay characters. Several LGBT characters appear in the Expanded Universe and, in particular, games such as Bioware’s Star Wars: The Old Republic series.

Arriving Dec. 15, director Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern and Benicio del Toro.
