The Last Man TV Series

Elijah Wood wants to star in the television adaptation of the Eisner Award-winning Vertigo comic Y: The Last Man. In an interview with Screen Rant at this year’s New York Comic Con, when asked what would his dream comic book role be, the Dirk Gently lead replied: “Y: The Last Man. When is that going to get made? It’s such a great comic series. Amazing.”

The critically acclaimed project has been stuck in developmental hell since 2009 when New Line Cinema tagged DJ Caruso to direct and Shia LaBeouf to star. The screen rights reverted back to series creators Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra in 2014 after New Line failed to get it into production, with a television adaptation at FX then being eyed.

In 2016, Vaughn himself confirmed that a pilot episode was already written with American Gods showrunner Michael Green attached to the FX series. Earlier this year, he described Green’s pilot as “phenomenal” and teased that he should have “some very cool news about another adaptation soon.”

Y: The Last Man focuses on Yorick, thought to be the last living man on Earth following a mysterious mass extinction, and his pet Capuchin monkey, Ampersand. Yorick and his companion scour the globe in search of answers in order to bring humanity back from the brink of disappearance, while encountering different parties with ulterior motives as to how the world should evolve and just who should take charge of the world’s next era of existence.
