Also detailed in the tweet is that Lemire will write and draw a five-page backup story in each issue, starring Peacemaker.

Debuting in 1966 in Showcase #62, the Inferior Five were the children of the Freedom Brigade, expected to follow in their footsteps as superheroes. Unfortunately, Merryman, Dumb Bunny, The Blimp, White Feather and Awkwardman turned out to be terrible at heroics.

The parody team starred in their own 12-issue series launched in 1967 before falling into obscurity. However, the Inferior Five have appeared over the years as forgotten characters, most notably as residents of Limbo in Grant Morrison’s Final Crisis.

Likewise introduced in 1966 in Charlton Comics, Peacemaker was later acquired along with the publisher’s other properties by DC Comics. He was introduced in the DC Universe alongside fellow Charlton heroes Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, the Question and Nightshade during Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons used Peacemaker as the template for The Comedian in Watchmen. The character also played a role in first Blue Beetle series that starred Jaime Reyes in the titular role, but he has been missing in action ever since.
