During the Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Saturday afternoon panel at New York Comic Con, it was made official that the show will return for its fifth season premiere on Dec. 1. Not only that, it’ll be a two-hour premiere, unveiling the first two episodes of the new season.

Ming-Na Wen — who plays Agent Melinda May on the show — also revealed, earlier Saturday during an NYCC interview, that the members of S.H.I.E.L.D. will face-off against the Kree in season five. “We have the Kree to deal with,” she revealed. “We can actually mention that and how strong they are and how blue they are. That’s one element. And then we also have aliens.”
The conclusion of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4 saw Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) in space, potentially making way for S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient World Observation and Response Department) to debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. S.W.O.R.D., created by Joss Whedon and John Cassaday during their run on Astonishing X-Men, are effectively the interplanetary counterpart of S.H.I.E.L.D., and it’s long been speculated the group may make its way to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
