Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting’s acclaimed spy comic Velvet is headed to television as a live-action drama.
The adaptation of the Image Comics series is the first show being developed specifically for Paramount Television, the rebranded incarnation of current cable TV staple Spike TV. As announced via The Hollywood Reporter, Kyle Killen (Awake, Lone Star) is in charge of adapting the period spy thriller as both the pilot’s writer and show’s executive producer.

Keith Redmon and Steve Golin of Anonymous Content, and Scott Pennington are all tapped as executive producers for the show. Velvet co-creators Brubaker and Epting will be credited as executive producer and producer, respectively.
Velvet tells the story of Velvet Templeton, a female spy working in the Cold War era, though nobody knows it. While she’s the most dangerous secret agent in the world, Velvet’s cover as the secretary to the man running Britain’s top secret intelligence agency, ARC-7. When the agency’s top agent — who happens to beVelvet’s boyfriend — is murdered, she’s forced to forsake her cover and re-enter the world of espionage.
The series debuted in 2013 from Image Comics, and was an immediate hit with both critics and fans. The series ran for fifteen issues, with the final chapter of what has been billed as Velvet‘s “first big arc” seeing release in July 2016.
