A new Ant-Man and the Wasp set photo offers a close-up look at the Wasp suit for Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne. While Lilly has already been photographed wearing the costume on-set, this is the first time the actress has donned the Wasp helmet in an image of this quality. By contrast, a previous image that purported to tease one of the film’s villains, Ghost, was blurry and shot from behind. The new set picture, first posted to Reddit, might be one of the best shots of the full Wasp suit captured thus far.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is the follow-up to 2015’s Ant-Man, which starred Paul Rudd as a thief-turned hero whose heroic turn was enabled by the combined intellect of Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym and Lilly’s Hope van Dyne. The sequel sees Rudd’s Scott Lang trying to balance his life as a hero and father when a new threat emerges, forcing Hope to take on the mantle of the Wasp, a title her mother once held.
Hope’s mother, Janet van Dyne, was a founding member of the Avengers in her Marvel Comics incarnation, and even named the super group when it was first formed. In Ant-Man, she sacrificed herself to a fate of constantly shrinking as she diffused a rogue missile.
