Homecoming Deleted Scene’s Miles Morales Easter Egg

A newly released scene from Spider-Man: Homecoming makes explicit what many fans inferred: Donald Glover’s nephew is, indeed, Miles Morales.

The success of the Spider-Man reboot this past summer wasn’t too surprising, but for many fans, one Easter egg in particular was a pretty unexpected bonus. During Peter Parker’s interrogation of Aaron Davis, played by Donald Glover, the petty criminal mentioned a nephew who also lived in the city. Given that Davis is the brother of Miles Morales’ father, Jefferson, most assumed it was a tacit nod to the newest comic book web-slinger. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige later confirmed this, and today, a new deleted scene released online further teases the existence of Miles in the MCU.

The short clip shows Davis trying in vain to extricate his hand from the webbing stuck to his car, muttering to himself that “This is what I get for helping.” Not long after, he’s on the phone, apologizing to a “Miles” for running a tad late.

Fans have made pushes for Miles Morales to get his due in the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the years, at one point even petitioning for Donald Glover himself to play the character. While audiences apparently had to settle on Glover as Miles’ uncle, the new clip teases that they might actually see Miles swing onto the big screen at some point in the future.
