Just two weeks ago, Spider-Man: Homecoming crossed the milestone figure of $800 million worldwide, and now it has emerged as the highest-grossing superhero movie of the year, according to Exhibitor Relations. The movie has nudged its way up the list of superhero movies’ performance at the box office through a solid showing in China.

Wonder Woman may have been the break-through hit of the year that grossed more than anyone expected, but these latest stats prove that Marvel Studios and Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming is the biggest superhero movie of the year — so far. The movie has beaten out Logan and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, though both Thor: Ragnarok and Justice League are yet to be released. The latter is tracking for a big $150 million opening weekend, so there’s a chance it may over take Tom Holland’s first solo movie as the wall-crawler.
Spider-Man: Homecoming has dominated The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s $709 million, The Amazing Spider-Man’s $759.9 million, and Spider-Man 2’s $783.3 million. The movie is now the eighth highest-grossing superhero movie ever, taking over Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which finished at $868 million worldwide. This total leaves Homecoming $20 million behind the highest-grossing Spider-Man movie ever, Spider-Man 3.
With $874M worldwide, SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING is the #1 superhero flick of 2017.
