The second issue of Dark Nights: Metal concluded with Batman being transformed into a gateway, through which the demon Barbatos and his seven evil Batmen have entered the DC Universe from the Dark Multiverse. Readers will have to wait for the release of Batman Lost in November to see how Batman will “face his greatest fears,” but via his Twitter account, writer Scott Snyder has shared a page from the one-shot (which he dubs “METAL #3.5) featuring a much older Bruce Wayne… and a mysterious young girl.
The first panel shows the girl peeking her head into Bruce’s room, while the next panel features three young boys, draped in shadows. All three appear to have on formal suits and ties, with the girl wearing a dress. Perhaps all four are attending some type of party at Wayne Manor? As for Batman, the receding white hair, wrinkles and mustache on his face indicate that this is a much older, more weary Bruce Wayne.

One lingering question from the art, which appears to be by one of the one-shot’s announced artists, Olivier Coipel, is, who is this young girl? With his advanced age, it’s quite possible she’s Bruce’s granddaughter, or a version of Helena Wayne, who is the daughter of Batman and Catwoman on Earth-Two (also known as the superhero Huntress). Since Bruce wasn’t that old when he became lost in the Dark Multiverse, either time accelerates faster there, or Batman is experiencing some type of nightmare scenario.
Batman Lost arrives in stores on Wednesday, November 8. The $3.99 one-shot will feature a foil-stamped cover by Bengal.
