Horror fans were caught off-guard in February by the news that Danny McBride and director David Gordon Green are working on a new installment in the long-running Halloween franchise. Additional information has been sparse, apart from co-writer McBride revealing that their film will continue story established in the first two entries.

Written and directed by John Carpenter, Halloween first terrorized audiences in 1978, spawning nine more entries over the ensuing decades. Curtis last made an appearance in 2001’s Halloween: Resurrection. In 2007, the franchise got a gore-soaked reboot from Rob Zombie, followed by a sequel two years later. While financially successful, the series went into hibernation soon after, with Dimension losing distribution rights in 2015.
Halloween, from Universal Pictures and Blumhouse, arrives in theaters Oct. 19, 2018.
