The Punisher: Not Connected to Defenders

Despite existing alongside other Marvel series on Netflix, The Punisher will be nothing like its peers, according to actor Jon Bernthal.

The actor, who plays the titular character who’s otherwise known as Frank Castle, spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming show and it’s connections to the other Netflix series. Other than Deborah Ann Woll reprising her role from Daredevil as Karen Page, there will be no real link to other shows like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, or Iron Fist.

“We are stripping down every supernatural element,” Bernthal said. “This show is different. It looks different. Frank is a character rooted in the most basic human emotions… He’s a comic-book character, but he doesn’t fly, he doesn’t have X-ray vision. He’s an unbelievably skilled soldier who’s been very, very angry and very, very hurt.” To put it another way, viewers shouldn’t expect any members of The Hand to show up.

Despite Marvel releasing daily promotional content, there’s still not a single sign of a release date for The Punisher — besides the common knowledge that it will debut this year. There have been videos, posters and brand new images, but no sign of when fans can watch Bernthal, Woll and the other cast members in action. When the series does arrive, though, it’s expected to explore an in-depth, conspiracy-based story that sees Frank discover things he may not be ready for — according to a new synopsis, at least.

The Twitter account for The Punisher also shared the titles of all 13 episodes, which were coded, before debuting a promo video that introduced the main cast.

The Punisher stars Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Ben Barnes as Billy Russo, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Micro, Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madani, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Daniel Webber as Lewis Walcott, Shohreh Aghdashloo as Farah Madani, and Paul Schulze as Rawlins, with Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio in an undisclosed role.
