Following months of negotiations, Patty Jenkins has reportedly closed a deal to direct the sequel to Warner Bros.’ hit Wonder Woman.

Although details haven’t been made public, it was rumored last month that the agreement would make Jenkins the highest-paid female director in Hollywood. Star Gal Gadot was already signed to a sequel, but Jenkins’ original contract with the studio covered only the first movie.
The deal doesn’t come as a surprise, both because of the critical and commercial success of Wonder Woman and because Jenkins had been discussing her vision for the sequel since the film’s release in June.
The greatest thing about making this movie was the fact that you’re really building to the Wonder Woman that we all love, but not until the end of the movie,” she said late last month. “The most exciting thing about [the sequel] is literally seeing her loose in the world now, living those classic stories. Here’s Wonder Woman, and what can she do? It should be a totally different movie, but a grand and now full-blown Wonder Woman in the world.”

Jenkins has been collaborating with Geoff Johns, DC Entertainment’s president and chief creative officer, on the sequel’s script since at least July.
Wonder Woman has earned $410.5 million at the North American box office, to become the top-performing film domestically in the DC Extended Universe. Worldwide, it’s grossed more than $816 million.
The Wonder Woman sequel is set for release Dec. 13, 2019. Gadot will next be seen as Diana in director Zack Snyder’s Justice League, arriving Nov. 17.
