Idris Elba Responds to Reviews

With The Dark Tower making a modest $107 million in the worldwide box office, it’s safe to say moviegoers and critics alike weren’t blown away by the movie adaptation of the Stephen King book series. Idris Elba, who starred as the Gunslinger in the film, doesn’t seem to care what anybody thinks, though.

Speaking to Mashable, Elba demonstrated a carefree attitude when discussing the reception of his latest movie.

“Ultimately, everyone has an opinion and that’s okay,” the actor said. “I’d imagine that a film like The Dark Tower — if you know anything about the literature — it’s a very hard book to digest, and it’s definitely a hard book to adapt. Until one of the reviewers that had something to say adapts it and does a great job, well I don’t want to hear what they have to say.”

The Dark Tower was originally a novel that ballooned into a series totaling eight books. The franchise is also set to be adapted into a television series, in which Elba reaffirmed his involvement. The plans for the adaptation included a movie trilogy, with each of the installments connected by a television season.

CBR’s review of The Dark Tower noted that “the lone highlight is Elba, who battles back against a putridly limp script to bring some excitement and humor into the film. While the action scenes are a jumble of poorly covered stunts and made-for-TV movie quality CGI, the dashing British actor is nonetheless a Gunslinger to behold.”

Directed by Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair), The Dark Tower stars Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Abbey Lee, Katheryn Winnick, Fran Kranz, Claudia Kim and Jackie Earle Haley.
