The war for galactic freedom in the latest Star Wars trilogy has brought together some of the greatest minds that particular fictional universe has to offer. So, it’s no surprise that, as the trilogy marches on, the technology of war will change. That’s the case for Poe Dameron’s X-Wing, at least.
Empire has revealed a new design for Poe Dameron’s ship ahead of its Star Wars-focused October issue. The changes aren’t just aesthetic, though. Poe’s ship has seen a complete overhaul, making it even more nimble and capable of avoiding incoming fire from First Order fighters.

The X-Wing, an Incom-FreiTek T-70 model, has been retrofitted for additional thrust by Resistance engineers. The ship now has a temporary accelerator pod attached to its aft section, which, when activated, allows for boost so fast that Poe can speed past First Order cannon emplacements. The ship also got a fancy new codename: Black One.
Debuting in theaters on December 15, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is a production of Lucasfilm directed by Rian Johnson and starring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.
