Inhumans arrives in IMAX theaters this Friday, and the cast members are on the promotional run, taking interviews to try to make people get out to the theater to watch the first two episodes before they debut on ABC several weeks later.

Ken Leung, who plays Karnak in the upcoming Marvel series, discussed his thoughts on the poor reception the trailers and promotional material has received ahead of the series’ premiering. “We’re kind of just loosely based on the comics.” the actor explained. “I think maybe the source of some of the mixed reactions to the little that people have seen so far, [is] that a lot of people love the comics, they’ve been around for decades, and it remains to be seen how people will accept something that is its own iteration of something that’s already beloved.”

“I think that the ‘awkwardness’ at the TCAs was blown out of proportion.” added Anson Mount, who portrays Black Bolt. “There was all this news that we ended the Q&A early, which we did not. It was actually scheduled to end at that time. I think people should just see the thing.”

The Inhumans debuted back in 1965 in the pages of Fantastic Four #45. Since then, the Royal Family – featuring characters such as Black Bolt, Medusa, and the lovable dog Lockjaw – have been a staple in Marvel Comics since they were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Seeing these beloved characters brought to life in a television series, which has a lower budget than you’d have expected the once-planned movie to have, would be worrying for longtime fans.

The first two episodes of Inhumans premieres Sept. 1 in IMAX theaters, followed by their broadcast debut Friday, Sept. 29, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. The drama stars Anson Mount as Black Bolt, Iwan Rheon as Maximus the Mad, Serinda Swan as Queen Medusa, Ken Leung as Karnak, Isabelle Cornish as Crystal, Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Mike Moh as Triton and Sonya Balmores as Auran.
