The Gintama live action movie continues its sweeping success, raking in 3.48 billion yen with an attendance of over 2.6 million as of Aug. 20! In addition, they also announced a Chinese release: The movie will be shown in 8,000 theaters on 12,000 screens starting from Sep. 1, making it the most featured Japanese movie in China.
There are high hopes for the movie in China as Oguri Shun, Suda Masaki, Hashimoto Kanna, Nagasawa Masami, Okada Masaki, and Domoto Tsuyoshi are all very well known, and both the the anime series (released in China in 2011) and the manga, which followed in 2012, are very popular.
The film has been a great success in other Asian countries as well, including Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam, and Thailand. It is also set to release in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia, and it will be distributed in the U.S., Canada, Germany, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, as well Central and South America.
