LOOK: Tokyo’s Unicorn Gundam Statue

The unicorn craze has reached Tokyo! The city has a new life-size RX-0 Unicorn Gundam statue keeping watch over its citizens.

The statue replaces the illuminated 59-foot Gundam statue erected in Tokyo for the 2015 holiday season and taken down last spring. If you thought 59 feet was high, wait until you see the Unicorn Gundam. This statue, named for it’s unicorn horn-esque protrusion on its head, stands at a staggering 20 meters according to SoraNews24, which measure out to be about 65 feet tall.

The Unicorn Gundam statue is being erected near the Diver City entertainment complex in Odaiba. The new statue is currently on track to be completed this fall.

SoraNews24 posted pictures of the construction from Twitter user @ShonanPai. It looks like the Gundam is coming together nicely.

One unique point to note is that this Gundam has articulation capabilities. As SoraNews24 has pointed out, earlier pictures of the Gundam’s construction show its head in Destroy Mode, which shows the unicorn horn split into a V-fin. Could this be a teaser for what else the statue could be capable of?

There’s no official date set for the Gundam’s completion and debut, but if its presence is anything like its predecessor, this new Gundam could be just as marvellous.
