Commemorating the 20th anniversary of One Piece’s serialization, a special collaborative illustration by manga artists Sakamoto Shinichi and Komi Shinya is appearing in issue 18 of Grand Jump that went on sale on Aug. 16. Oda Eiichiro responded with an awesome illustration of his own, which can be found in the same issue!
It also comes with a two-page pin-up by Sakamoto and Komi featuring a few One Piece costume changes. Sakamoto is known for the masterpiece Kokou no Hito and is currently working on Innocent Rouge. As a part of the collab, he illustrated One Piece characters Luffy, Zoro, and Nami as nobles.
Komi, meanwhile, is known for works like EX-VITA and D’z and started serializing the sci-fi series EX-ARM in 2015. For his part in the collaboration, he drew the voluptuous and extremely popular Robin as a fully armed sci-fi character!
As for Oda’s response, you can see it below! The famous One Piece logo is looking surprised, with the text reading “Wow!” and “Thank you very much!”
Last but not least is an illustration from Koji Joukura ( Play Ball 2 ) on the cover. Protagonist Taniguchi Takao is depicted with a Weekly Shonen Jump issue on his knee and One Piece on its cover!
With 20 great years of One Piece already behind Oda, it’s great to see other manga artists showing their love for the Straw Hat Crew too. To get a better look at the illustrations, grab a copy of Grand Jump!
