Oni Press Announces Oni Games

Following the announcement of Renegade Game Studios’ Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Card Game, based on the graphic novel series by Bryan Lee O’Malley, Oni Press has revealed it will launch a new tabletop gaming imprint called Oni Games.

The move comes after Oni Press found success with the recently-launched Dead of Winter comic series based on Plaid Hat Games’ hit board game, as well as their previous collaboration with Pinnacle Entertainment Group in bringing Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt’s The Sixth Gun to the Savage Worlds role-playing system. The decision to move into the tabletop business with Oni Games comes after the publisher felt it was time to capitalize on the momentum for a “more official entry into the world of gaming.”

“As fans of the exciting developments and explosive growth in modern tabletop, we are excited to bring the same level of quality and execution in our creator-owned comics and graphic novels to the world of board games,” Oni Press Vice President Charlie Chu said. “The opportunity to bring our library of fun, accessible and idiosyncratic comics and graphic novels to life from page to cardboard is irresistible.”

The comic publisher’s Oni Games imprint will seek established talent to help bring their creator-owned characters and worlds to life. They’ll do so with the help of Steve Ellis, who has worked in the tabletop industry for two decades with his company Rainy Day Games.

“I am excited to be joining the talented team at Oni Press as they embark upon a new initiative within the realm of games,” Ellis said. “I look forward to working with many talented game designers and developers to bring some of the amazing Oni Press properties to life in new interactive ways.”

As of right now, it’s unclear what property Oni Press will bring to life first through their Oni Games imprint. However, fans can pick up Oni Press’ latest foray into tabletop games when Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Card Game hits shelves this September.
