Ohba Tsugumi and Obata Takeshi, creators of the manga Death Note, have released comments on the upcoming Death Note movie being released on Netflix on Aug. 25! Obata has also released a special illustration in honor of the new adaptation.
This will be an original live-action movie by Netflix inspired by the original work, and it’ll be made streamable simultaneously in 190 different countries and regions around the world. Light Turner, the film’s version of Light Yagami, will be played by Nat Wolff, L by Keith Stanfield, Mia Sutton by Margaret Qualley, Ryuk by Willem Dafoe. The film will be directed by Adam Wingard, and Masi Oka is signed on as a producer.
A specially done illustration by Obata was also revealed at the San Diego Comicon with copy reading “Don’t trust Ryuk. He is not your Pet. He is not your Friend.” written on it. Just like that text implies, Ryuk looks sinister with the Death Note in hand as Light holds an apple.
The new Death Note film will be available for streaming beginning on Aug. 25.
