Arrow EP Says Season 7 Is Already in Development

Despite currently filming its sixth season, there are already plans in place for a potential seventh season of Arrow according to producer Marc Guggenheim.

During the CW’s presentation at the Television Critics Association earlier in the week, Guggenheim revealed that the writers on Arrow, which he serves as a producer, are already thinking well-ahead to season seven — even though they’ve only recently begun work on the show’s sixth season.

“We’ve already started talking about ooh, we have a shape for season seven already,” Guggenheim said. “This is the earliest we’ve ever had an idea for a season that far ahead, but it’s come out of our conversations about season six.”

While Arrow has taken a tumble in the ratings over the years, ending its fifth season with just 1.68 million viewers and a 0.6 in the highly-coveted 18-49 demo, the ratings are still considered a “hit” on a network such as the CW. So even though the show’s ratings continue to decline — the series originally premiered to 4 million viewers back in 2012, and a 1.3 in the 18-49 demo — so long as it stays above a million viewers in its sixth season, a season seven is all but guaranteed. At least this way, with ideas already taking place for the following season, the writers can write their current story with an idea of how it’ll impact any future story-lines.

The sixth season of Arrow is set to bring back the Helix Group, while also taking some time to explore Deathstroke’s background in a flashback story with special two-part episode.

Starring Stephen Amell as the Emerald Archer, Arrow returns Thursday, October 12 at 9pm ET/PT on The CW. The series also stars Emily Bett Rickards, David Ramsey, Willa Holland and more.
