WARNING: This article contains potential spoilers for Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok, arriving Nov. 3.
The new trailer for Thor: Ragnarok was packed with plenty of surprises for Marvel fans, but the biggest — literally — came in the final seconds with the fiery visage of Surtur. Although we already knew the longtime Thor villain played a role in the Marvel Studios sequel, thanks to a pair of Funko toys, the sheer scale of the flaming demon, and the promise of a showdown with the Incredible Hulk, surely compensated for the lack of surprise.

However, now another merchandising tie-in may provide a clue as to Surtur’s role, and his ultimate fate.
Hot Toys, the Hong Kong-based company known for its movie-accurate collectibles, has unveiled its first two 1/6th-scale figures for Thor: Ragnarok, Gladiator Hulk and Roadworn Thor. Although the former will undoubtedly draw much of the attention — hey, it’s the Incredible Hulk in gladiator attire — the latter deserves closer inspection for one of its accessories: Surtur’s skull, which “can be magnetically attached to the back of the figure along with a metal chain.”
That would certainly imply that Thor (with or without his allies) kills Surtur in his effort to stop Hela from razing Asgard and its civilization, and bring about the Twilight of the Gods. The demon is typically depicted in Marvel comics as 1,000 feet tall, as we see in the trailer, but the scale of the skull suggests he may change size in the film, perhaps after death.

In addition to Surtur’s skull, the Hot Toys figure comes with interchangeable hands, a metal Mjolnir, a blue-colored LED light-up Mjolnir with lightning effect accessory, and a display stand. It’s expected to ship in the third or fourth quarter of this year.
Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Karl Urban as Skurge, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/the Hulk and Anthony Hopkins as Odin. The film arrives No. 3.
