The streaming service has ordered 20 episodes of the series, which will have themes inherent in every mortal life, but told through the lens of some funny supernatural beings. Disenchantment will take viewers to the “crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland, where they will follow the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess Bean, her feisty elf companion Eflo, and her personal demon Luci.” The characters will also encounter other fantasy creatures such as sprites, imps, harpies, trolls and ogres, as well as “walruses and a lots of human fools.”
Groening explained the series about learning how to deal with the idiosyncrasies, and ridiculousness, of life. “Ultimately, Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots,” he said in a statement, “despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you.”
Abbi Jacobson, Nat Faxon and Eric Andre star as Bean, Elfo and Luci ,respectively. The voice cast is rounded out by voices familiar to fans of Groenings work: John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maruice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, David Herman, Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding and Lucy Montgomery.
Disenchantment will come to Netflix in 10-episode batches in 2018.
