Will Aquaman’s New SDCC Footage Go Online?

When Warner Bros. took to the Hall H stage on Saturday, it was expected that they would treat fans to some footage from Aquaman, which officially entered production back in May. Given DC’s historical willingness to share footage online shortly thereafter panels, it was presumed the footage wouldn’t exactly be exclusive to Comic-Con International. However, that appears to be the case with the sneak peek of footage for the King of Atlantis’ first live-action solo film, as DC has confirmed they will not be releasing the footage online anytime soon. With that said, when can we expect to get our first look at the SDCC footage?

As CBR reported in our coverage of DC’s part of the Warner Bros. presentation on Saturday, the entertainment giant kicked things off by having Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa, make his way through the audience with his trident in hand. “The king is here,” Momoa proclaimed.

With Momoa on stage, a message from director James Wan played on the big screen. Wan, of course, was in Australia where filming is currently underway. After taking a few minutes to describe the film, which he confirmed is an origin story, concept art from the feature played over the big screen before cutting into two short sequences from the film.

One of those sequences teased two fishermen coming upon Atlantean boats, followed by a shot of the world of Atlantis, while the other saw Momoa’s Aquaman holding a sword as he talked to an unknown figure while preparing to fight. The sequences were short, as to be expected given the film is still far from finished, but they were enough to get fans excited for Wan’s take on the character. Unfortunately, though, DC has since confirmed that the footage will remain exclusive to Hall H.

So, with the footage confirmed not to be released online, when can we expect to see the footage — or a version of it? With Aquaman set for 2018, it’s possible that we’ll see a teaser trailer attached to Justice League with most — if not all — of the SDCC footage making its way into the first teaser. After all, the footage’s inclusion of the first real look at Atlantis and Momoa readying for battle seem like a no-brainer for the film’s first teaser trailer. Then again, with well over a year until the film is set to hit theaters, it’s also possible we won’t see any footage until early next year.

Still, with Momoa set to seemingly steal the scenes in Justice League, attaching a teaser trailer for Aquaman to that film seems highly probable.

Until then, we can relive Momoa’s Hall H entrance over and over and revel in the fact that he seems to truly enjoy being the King of Atlantis.

Arriving on December 21, 2018, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Orm, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko and Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna.
