Following Batman Returns, Burton was originally supposed to helm a third live-action Batman movie starring Keaton. However, the project ultimately morphed into 1995’s Batman Forever, with the late Joel Schumacher taking over as director and Burton falling into a producer role. While technically a sequel to Batman Returns, Batman Forever acts as more of a soft reboot. Multiple key characters were recast, including Batman himself, with Val Kilmer taking over for Keaton as the Dark Knight. Years later, photos of Keaton’s prototype Batsuit from Tim Burton’s Batman 3 surfaced online.
